The importance to the global industry of preserving the genetic diversity of wild macadamias was given prominence at the 8^th International Macadamia Symposium in Yunnan, China.  Ian McConachie addressed the conference on the subject of “Saving our Wild Macadamias” and other talks addressed the value of genetic diversity for breeding programs and pest resistance.  At the closing ceremony, Ian was presented with a “Lifetime Achievement Award” for his contributions to the global macadamia industry and the Macadamia Conservation Trust was presented with the “Outstanding Contribution Award” for the contributions the Trust makes to the preservation of the very foundations of the macadamia industry.  See the video from the award presentation on MCT’s facebook page here.
