The spectacular Spring blossoming of our macadamia trees was celebrated in two special street art murals at Sample Festival in Bangalow recently.
Byron graffiti artist Davey Mac was engaged by Australian Macadamias to commemorate the start of the new macadamia season (and next year’s crop) by creating a vibrant 2.4m x 2.1m double-sided artwork onsite.
Festival goers were struck by the colourful ‘macadamia country in Spring’ themed artwork which added a pop of colour at the entrance to the festival and provided an ideal spot to ‘take a selfie’ before enjoying the opportunity to crack and taste some new season local macadamias.
There were also plenty of opportunities to taste test delicious local macadamias at the festival with them creatively featured in the winning $10 plate from Federal Doma Café of Wood fire grilled lamb spareribs with haccho miso glaze, macadamia cream, bush spice and wombok slaw, as well many of the other $5 and $10 tasting plates including Harvest Newrybar, Raes on Wategos, Macadamia Castle and Butcher Baker.
In addition, macadamias, macadamia milk, oil and butter all made an appearance in the festival’s cooking demonstrations throughout the day.
